About me
I am a traditional Bharatanatyam dancer based in Dallas. I have been dancing since I was three. Bharatanatyam has always been a part of my life, as a student, a performer, and in more recent years, as a teacher.
By day, I am a Strategy and Innovation executive. I am an Engineering graduate from UT Austin and a University of Chicago MBA. I am a lifelong dancer and dance continues to be a part of how I engage with the world around me.
I’ve been teaching students for over 10 years. I was the Associate Director at Natyalaya in Austin, and several of my students have gone on to conduct their stage debut (Arangetram) under my guidance. I am excited to share this art with individuals who are interested in learning this unique dance form.
My dance training
I learned the Kalakshetra style of Bharatanatyam at the KalaDarsana School of Dance in Chennai under the tutelage of the acclaimed Smt. Jayanthi Subramaniam. I received advanced training from the Shrutilaya School of Dance in Singapore and Bharatha Natyalaya in Chennai. I have also undergone Nattuvangam training from Sri. Narendra Kumar of Anusham Dance School. I have performed in various productions including Antariksha, Ramakatha, Ganga, Rupamu Joochi, Lavanya Rama, Prahlada Bhakti Vijayam and the Temples of India.
My teaching philosophy
I love giving students a way to connect with this ancient art form, and passing on the culture and stories behind the dance.
Students of any age and any level of experience begin with the adavus, the basic steps of the art, building posture, rhythm and hand gestures along the way.
Children build a foundation they can grow with. Adults are welcome with no prior dance experience, at an unhurried pace, working toward a first full piece to dance.
